G-tec has successfully completed an extensive geophysical campaign on the potential export cable routes for Codling Wind Park, set to be one of the largest offshore wind projects in Ireland. Located approximately 13-22 kilometres off the County Wicklow coast, Codling Wind Park has a potential capacity of up to 1,500 megawatts. Two vessels were used to survey 89km of the potential cable route area: Arctic Ocean for the nearshore and offshore part of the route, and Fastnet Pelican for the very nearshore areas. All areas were investigated using multibeam echosounder, side scan sonar, ultra-high resolution seismic (UHRS), magnetometry and shallow soil sampling. The teams on site succeeded in completing the project with an excellent safety record, in spite of the challenges posed by the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions.
